The Fostering process
Foster a cat in Cody, Wyoming and make a lifesaving difference by opening your home to a cat in need. Fostering with The Cat’s Mark provides cats and kittens with a safe, loving environment while they heal, grow, and prepare for their forever homes — all with guidance, supplies, and veterinary care fully supported by our team.
The Steps to Fostering
Step 1
Submit a Foster Application
Begin by completing our online foster application, sharing details about your home, experience with pets, and availability so we can determine the best foster match for you.
Step 2
Application review
Once received, our Foster Coordinator will review your application, verify veterinary references, and ensure your home meets foster requirements. You will be contacted to discuss next steps and answer any questions you may have.
Step 3
Match and Preparation
After approval, we thoughtfully match you with a cat or kittens suited to your home and experience level, and provide guidance along with a foster starter kit to help you get ready.
Step 4
Welcome Your Foster Cat
You’ll bring your foster cat home and provide daily care, love, and updates while The Cat’s Mark covers all veterinary care and supports you until the cat is ready for adoption. We encourage fosters to take photos of their foster cats and share them on social media. Word of mouth is incredibly powerful and helps our cats find their forever homes quicker.
Fostering requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Provide a safe, clean, indoor-only home
Be able to provide daily care, including feeding, litter box cleaning, and socialization
Have reliable transportation for vet appointments
Be willing to follow the rescue’s care guidelines and protocols
Ensure resident pets are up to date on vaccinations
